The Scoop: Week of April 24th

Maintenance Projects:

  • Weed Abatement on City Right of Way
  • Brush/Tree trimming in City Right of Way on Hale near Wright Ave
  • Stop bar legends in residential neighborhoods, including Del Monte and Wright Ave
  • Pothole repairs along East Dunne Ave; Monterey Road north of Cochrane Avenue, and south of Watsonville Road

Major Projects:

  • Downtown Parks Project:  The Downtown Parks Project began on April 17, 2017. There are three parks being constructed.  Depot Park is located on Depot Street between 3rd and 4th Streets. Creek Park is located at West Third Street and Del Monte Avenue, and the Hilltop Park is located at the Nob Hill Tank from West Third Street to Dunne Avenue.  The Depot Street Parking Lot and the Creek Park Parking Lot will be closed during construction.  For the Week of April 24th, the following work is planned: Depot Park-Continue to demolish parking Lot project boundary and begin grading of site. Creek Park-Continue to perform clearing and grubbing for this site. Hilltop Park-Perform erosion control measures and continue to clear and grub the project site.   • Boys Ranch and Jackson Well Rehabilitation:  The Boys Ranch and Jackson Well Rehabilitation Project is currently out to bid. Construction is anticipated to begin in late May. For more information please check the following link: http://www.morgan-hill.ca.gov/1439/Water-System-Upgrades
  • Aquatics Center Deck Renovation:  The Aquatics Center pool deck is being resurfaced from Monday, March 27th through Wednesday, May 3rd. Work at the competition pool has been largely completed and the pool reopened on April 17. There will be some touch-up work continuing over the next two weeks that will not result in the pool closing.  The instructional pool is now closed and will remain closed until the project is completed in early May.   • East Dunne Water Main Project: The project is complete and was accepted as complete by the City Council on April 5, 2017. For more information please check the following link http://www.morgan-hill.ca.gov/1551/East-Dunne-Water-Transmission-Line-Insta Currently, PG&E is constructing a private project (non-City project) along East Dunne with the installation of electrical conduits. It is not part of the original water main project.
  • Oak Canyon Booster Station: This project is currently under construction on Oak Canyon Lane in the Jackson Oaks neighborhood. Expected completion is May 31, 2017. For updates: http://www.morgan-hill.ca.gov/1439/Water-Systems-Upgrades
  • Dewitt Avenue S-Curve Realignment Project: The County of Santa Clara is the lead agency for the DeWitt Avenue S-Curve Realignment safety project between Origilia Lane and Spring Avenue. The City of Morgan Hill is a partner in the project and providing some financial support for the project. The project has been awarded to Granite Rock Company for $2.1M with construction work anticipated to start as soon as weather allows. The project requires that the northbound lane on DeWitt Avenue (between Origilia and Spring) be closed to through traffic, tentatively scheduled for April 28, 2017. Northbound through traffic will be detoured to Monterey Road. The southbound direction will be open to through traffic.   • Hale Avenue Extension/Hale Avenue Plan Line Projects: A DRAFT Environmental Impact Report (EIR) was prepared for this project (located on the City’s website). The City received comments to the draft EIR and is now in the process of preparing the final EIR with responses to all comments. This document will be available shortly on the City’s website.
  • Granada Hotel: The installation of water services and abandonment of old services is underway.
  • Ongoing Utility Work at 3rd and Monterey:  Onsite construction continues.
