Flying drones (unmanned aircraft) on public property in Morgan Hill is currently prohibited by the City's Municipal Code. Since some residents seem to enjoy drone flying as a hobby and their use is gaining in popularity, the City is considering a change to the Municipal Code that would allow drone use under reasonable circumstances.

The City of Morgan Hill is working on a policy for Downtown Special Events and Street Closures. The Community Services Department presented a draft policy to the City Council on June 21, 2017. The City Council chose not to move forward with the policy, as written, and instructed City staff to do more work on the policy. The policy revision will be presented to City Council in the Fall of 2017.
Chapter 12.16 of the Morgan Hill Municipal Code, Events on Public Property, outlines requirements for special events and the associated permit process. The primary purpose of this policy is to provide guidance to staff in the issuance of special event permits that close streets in Downtown Morgan Hill.
It is proposed that the policy will cover items such as attendance level requirements, traffic considerations, the downtown parking structure and the use of Third Street, specifically.

On June 7, the Morgan Hill City Council voted to voluntarily move to district elections. This was prompted by the City receiving a letter from the law firm of Goldstein, Borgen, Dardarian, & Ho, dated May 5, 2017, claiming that the city is violating the California Voting Rights Act because City Council members are elected at-large rather than by districts. By voluntarily moving to district elections the City of Morgan Hill will take advantage of legal protection that enables cities to have a say in district boundaries and avoid costly litigation. More information will be available soon but we wanted to alert all residents of the need for your input and participation in establishing City Council districts in Morgan Hill. The City will be retaining an expert demographer to draw district maps for consideration, according to the requirements of the Federal Voting Rights Act and the California Voting Rights Act.
